The swedish bar association
Only members of the Swedish Bar Association are entitled to use the title “advokat.” The Bar Association is a private law organization comprising all the country’s lawyers. It is regulated by the Code of Judicial Procedure, and its statutes are approved by the government.

National legal aid authority
The Legal Aid Authority is a nationwide agency that administers legal aid according to the Legal Aid Act and also acts as a claims authority when the court has decided on repayment obligations, such as defense costs in criminal cases. Not everyone is entitled to legal aid; it is a social protection law intended to assist those who cannot obtain legal assistance in any other way.

The Consumer Disputes Committee of the Swedish Bar Association is a body for alternative dispute resolution that adjudicates fee disputes or other financial claims brought by a consumer against a lawyer or a law firm.
Parliamentary ombudsmen (JO)
The Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO), or the Ombudsmen of the Parliament as it is officially known, oversees that authorities operate in accordance with the laws and regulations governing their work—particularly those laws that affect individuals’ rights and obligations in relation to the public sector.
